By a show of hands, people...

THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT, TOO. 
I NEEDED THE RULES.
THEY WERE GOOD FOR MY HEALTH + WELL-BEING,

I honestly believed this was the only way that one day I would eat the "appropriate amount". This was a FACT in my mind – I mean I had EVIDENCE to prove that I can't be trusted.

I had tried – but it always ended up with me overeating, feeling guilty, and doing more work to compensate.

I latched back onto new rules – cutting things out, placing time limits on "when" I could eat, and portioning just how much so I wouldn't "overdo it".

Funny thing about rules:

We hate them in real life, but when it comes to food, we genuinely believe they'll just make things "easier" and all our problems will go away.

But here's the thing:

Rules around food DON'T actually free up our mind... or make things easier... they just make us STRESS MORE❗❗

I see now that the rules REINFORCED the idea that my body couldn't be trusted.

If I felt hungry, my REACTION was to: 

  • get frustrated & angry
  • distract myself! 
  • drink water πŸ™„

Not in a MILLION years
did I recognize that the solution and best thing
I could do for my health and wellbeing...
would be to just… EAT!!

But the seemingly very obvious answer wasn’t actually obvious, and Google backs me up:

 

I'M SORRY – DID I JUST SEE "HOW TO COPE WITH HUNGER" CASUALLY SCROLL BY??? COPE!?!?! As if HUNGER AND NEEDING FOOD FOR ENERGY is an illness!?!?

NO WONDER we're confused!

We've been conditioned to disconnect from our inner cues.

OF COURSE IT FEELS HARD TO "JUST LISTEN TO YOUR BODY".

The fact is:
WE NEGLECTED OUR OWN INNER WISDOM,
OUR OWN MAGIC,
LONG AGO.

I believed the lie that I can't trust my body. That it REQUIRES the external "rules".

I WAS CONSTANTLY FLIPPING BETWEEN
THE RESTRICT/OVEREAT CYCLE +
LATCHING ONTO NEW RULES EVERY TIME "I MESSED UP".

BUT DID I BLAME THE SYSTEM + CULTURE
THAT TOLD ME TO SUPPRESS MY HUNGER?? 

N O P E.

I BLAMED MYSELF.

Each "failure" meant the return of rules, and stricter attempts to "enforce" them. Also, can we talk about the PHYSICAL PAIN in addition to the mental suffering?!??! The hunger & light headedness at onset, followed by the painful stomach fullness sensations, and then, the GUILT, mental rumination, and eventual compensatory behavior. Ughhhhhh.

Every. Single. Time.

PERHAPS YOU'RE WONDERING IF I MISS THAT LIFE!!?!?

F*RK NO! 

PEACE around food is P-R-I-C-E-L-E-S-S
BECAUSE IT'S PEACE THAT BLEEDS INTO MY ENTIRE LIFE

There are so many "best of alls" that come with this shift – but it's worth mentioning that food shouldn't hurt – there shouldn't be PHYSICAL PAIN regularly, not before, or after a meal.

With permission to eat any foods, in whatever quantities, whenever I wanted, I find myself "comfortable" constantly – even on Holidays (HI, THANKSGIVING) + Vacations + Weekends + Every Evening of the Week.

This is peacefulness from within has given me space to bond with humans, pursuit my passions, 
and live my truthiest life.

Because:

  • I trust what my body tells me
  • I nourish my body with food
  • I nourish my body with enough food
  • ... and if I eat too much, or too little, I show my body care, not punishment

I trust my body; my body trusts me.

We are working together.
Mind-Body Connection, Restored.

 

FTN H+F is the only course of its kind.

In FTN Fundamentals, we set the groundwork for listening to and honoring our bodies.

We learned:

  • to identify noise,
  • that we need ALL FOOD GROUPS (!), and
  • how to integrate inner + outer wisdom into our everyday food choices.

In FTN H+F we take it a STEP FURTHER, tackling hunger and fullness, reconnecting with the cues that have been there all along.

We'll learn to use NOTHING BUT OUR OWN WISDOM to decide:

  • WHEN we need food,
  • HOW MUCH food we need, and
  • WHEN we've had enough.

TRANSLATION:

  • NO more my-fitness-jail (er, I mean pal)!
  • NO more precise measurements with spoons/cups/scales to determine how much we’re “allowed” to eat!
  • NO more listening to arbitrary rules about when we can/can't eat!

In FTN H+F, we’re not just learning to eat
when we're hungry and stop when we’re full –
we’re radically shifting how we view our desire to eat,
recognizing that WE DON’T JUST EAT FOR FUEL.

  • We eat ‘cause things taste good!
  • We eat because we have memories tied to food!
  • We eat 'cause we’re curious!
  • We eat because it’s a way to bond!

There are SO MANY reasons we eat outside of just physical hunger. We won't just practice identifying the reasons, we’ll give ourselves RADICAL PERMISSION TO EAT, seeing firsthand what happens when our mind-body connection is restored.

FTN H+F is about coming home to YOUR body,
diving DEEPER into the way it works, and connecting to the parts of you that were silenced by diet culture.

THIS IS ACHIEVED BY:

  • moving from mind-body disconnection back into mind-body connection
  • learning the difference between fullness vs. satiety and SATISFACTION
  • recognizing that overeating is totally normal!! 
  • getting to know your own body
  • understanding your own hunger/ fullness sensations at various levels
  • feeling confident responding to your inner cues

and finally, by

  • developing SELF-TRUST
